The Road to Gatebil pt2

I've heard and read a lot about Gatebil, but nothing and I mean nothing really gears you up for what unfolds at the Rudskogen Raceway - it's the best bits of a car event, blended with the best of a festival. If your not a car nut, then Gatebil still offers you an experience that you'll remember for a lifetime.

We arrived at the showground and the show was in full effect and the pit lane was already like Roseanne Barr's waistline - bursting at the seams. The cars got parked up and it was into the throng of the activity to get our bearings and take in the noise and smell of the track.

Local's explained that if you have under 600hp then you need not even try and get out on track - the high altitude of the track diminishes engine power by 20% and the demanding track requires every single spare pony to be galloping it's rear hind off. The Nordic's really know how to bring it, stock looking Volvo's and Audi's destroyed tyres as the 1000+bhp engines churned them into molten, smokey vapour. 

As the evening ebbs its self into effect, the track action makes way for the festival vibe. After a Bear Grylls style hike through woods lead us to the main stage...

As the weekend blurred in history, we were left broken and on the edge - while the festival goers headed home to warm beds and good food - the hardcore bunch of us still had another four nights of parties and 1500 miles to get through - all of which will follow in my future blogs...
