Friday 29th July 2011. The time was 0900. The weather was warm and sunny. Me, I was packing the car. Tent, check. Gazebo, check. BBQ, check. Food, check. £70 worth of V-Power shit, must get to shell and fill up.
1200 hours....... yay im off to pick up Nick and off to Elvington York for Ten Of The Best X. Quick stop at MK for fuel and M1 here we come. 4 hours later we are pulling into the airfield of what looks to be the best ever TOTB yet.
As normal its the main 3 big brand team foing for the title with the evo's taking charge over the past few years its busy busy busy in the pits for the skylines and the subaru's with the top cars in each team being put forward with the hope of bringing the team title home. Friday was really set up day and once the tent was up and the Koperbergs chilled and opened it was time to sit back and chill for the evening. Well the evening turned into 2am before we hit the sack and the hope of sunny and warm days ahead.
Saturday 30th July 2011. 07:30. WTF....... Oh year 800 bhp skylines were parked just in front of our camping area. Ahhh the sound of engine's reving up as an alarm clock. 10:30 saw the start of what they called boot camp. It was your chance to have a go on the drag strip and handling track and a chance to see the race cars trying out there mapping and new break set up's. By 13:00 we had seen a subaru do a 10 second 1/4 mile and an old 1.6 honda civic with an ebay turbo kit do a 13 second pass. It just goes to show you don't have to spend big money to get a good time on the track.
As the day went on and the cost of new mods for my car we saw some more on a budget cars along with some shall we say 80k + cars take to both tracks. 16:00 saw both tracks close and the saturday nights partys start to warm up.
Sunday 31st July 2011. 07:00. Well thats me up and walking 1/2 a mile to the awfull porta loo's which was really the only bad thing the weekend had to offer.
10:00 was drivers breifing and it was a great sight to see around 100 drivers on the start line getting there orders for the day. 10:30 tracks were both open and the real racing began. With the 1st car on the 1/4 mill posting a time of just under 10 seconds and a top speed run of over 150mph it looked like the day was off to a great start. With both the drag and handling track seeing non stop action we were back and forth watching the action. Over the loud speakers we heard a car had just done a 9.29 1/4 and another do a top speed run of 188 mph. Well the action went on all day and the sun belted down on the top of my head as the temp hit over 80 degrees. The handling track was non stop with kit cars with 1300cc turbo bike engins setting the pace well that was untill the subarus took there turn and they set the pace for the day.
Andy forrest with his 3.6 twin turbo GC8 Impreza was the man to beat and boy did they all try. With the pure strenth of team subaru they topped the leader board on the handling track. As lunch time arrived we were all pleased to get out of the sund and grab some scran and a nice ottle of water. With the sound of an 900bhp skyline antilaging told us that luch was over and the drag strip was back open. With a number of the top boys hitting 9's the battle was on. TR Racing came out with 2 of the most amazing skylines with one almost lifting it's front wheels the crowd were going mad.
As the close of play came ever closer it was anounced that this years winners were......... TEAM SUBARU.
So as I now wait for the date of TOTB 11 I would like to say well done to all the teams that took part and made a great weekend for everyone. Who would have guessed £35 for all of this. Who's up for it next year?????
Oh there were one or two of these as well..
This one OMG!!!!!
