I had to write about this amazing automotive furniture I’ve just received from Dave Clark Designs.
I ordered this from a company in the UK called Dave Clark Designs who, as well as producing some great commercial design work have an automotive furniture division that create some truly stunning pieces.
Dave himself is a great guy, very approachable and clearly has a great eye for detail.
I came across Dave’s work through twitter and instantly like it. I haven’t
seen anything like before.
I’ve seen tables made from engine blocks and I’ve seen the furniture on TopGear but Dave takes it to another level.
I contacted Dave to talked through the possibilities and quickly realised there isn’t much Dave can’t do. We selected red leather Alfa Romeo seats which would be fixed on ‘Clip’ frames in a black painted finish. Dave turn keyed the whole project for me but I could have supplied my own seats if I wanted.
We’ve been in contact through the process and Dave’s sent images of the various stages.
The whole process felt special and the tension has been building as the delivery date neared.
When the chairs arrived yesterday I was blown away.
If I’m honest I thought they would be more show than go and not be that practical which would be ok as they were for the reception/breakout area.
In fact they are really comfortable and I’m reluctant to let guests or customers sit on them!
It’s the attention to details that really grabs you. Once you’ve taken in the furniture you start to notice little details like the sculpted back and sides added to the 2 seater to hide the unsightly parts of the seat, the quality bolts that are used to attach the chair runners to the frame and much more.
The best part was the price, MUCH less than I expected. Considering a cheap
reception suite would easily be £600 for a basic 3 piece, Dave’s furniture isn’t significantly more considering what you get!
How long will a basic fabric reception sofa last compared to a quality leather car seat?
I’m loving my set and the best thing is it’s bespoke. You might order something similar, you might even want red leather Alfa seats but it won’t be quite the same.

Dave has his own site with some really cool
furniture on it.
There’s a load of videos of products in the making etc on the YouTube channel. http://www.youtube.com/user/daveclarkdesigns?feature=watch

Comment by mark turner on April 25, 2012 at 9:36pm Ha ha, it's awesome stuff Jimmy and would definitely go in a house. Before it arrived i thought it would be all show but it's really nice to sit on. The 2 seater is awesome. At home you'd want padded arms but that's no problem. Those tables blow me away. Dave's just doing a Maserati engine table for a customer. I WANT!! http://yfrog.com/kk28nmdj
