There is an event that comes round once a year for us here at Fueltopia. A personal favourite event of mine & of many others that take part annually.
I am of course talking about the Fueltopia Toy Run, this takes place each year & sees a group delivering presents to the John Radcliffe Hospital Children's ward & the Shooting Star Chase Hospice in Guildford.
The Fueltopia team itself makes up a small number of the participants but the true strength of this event lies behind the united front of several car clubs, volunteers, donations from people within & outside of the car world & those that just fancy coming along for the drive.
This year the meeting point was at Beaconsfield services. The assortment of cars was as varied as the presents they contained by the boot full, with 350zs, V8 muscle cars & TVR's all coming together to make the run.
First destination was The John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.
We were as always gratefully welcomed by the staff as we set about unloading the presents into their lobby.
Several children were able to come down & meet with our very own Santa Claus & Winnie the Pooh. An incredibly heartwarming sight.
Once some presents had been chosen by the children, we helped pack up the rest with Hospital staff & it was time to move on to our next stop.
Few of us went on a wide detour to Guilford, leaving Oxford behind & coming out somewhere near Newbury... but with presents to deliver we made sure we were shortly back on track.
Lunch breaks up the day at a Pub near the hospice before its time to head to our final destination just outside Guildford, the Shooting Star Chase Hospice.
Our welcome there is always a warm one. Due to it being this time of year not many of the children are on location however those that are always come out to greet us with their families & see what the noise is all about.
The staff there were as per usual wonderful & once again provided us with refreshments & informed us on what they have been up to at the Hospice & how this years toys will be distributed.
Huge thank you must go out to Iain Phillips for putting this event together this year. It was another fantastic success for this wonderful annual tradition.
The Fueltopia Toy Run is now an established part of our car culture & not one we are likely to give up anytime soon. We look forward to seeing you alongside us in 2014.
