Real Cars. Real Drivers, Real Performance

What started as a phone call from Toyota turned into a great day for Fueltopia Barrel Sprint. The idea of the day was to for a film company to make a video on the man of drift

Keiichi Tsuchiya. Known to many as Drift King this 56 year old legend really knows how to put a car through it’s paces. The car in question was the GT86 from Toyota with its 2ltr boxter engine. For Becci and I the story started the week before when we had to drive and collect all the equipment needed for the filming. The day before was set up day for us with the one fbs lane to set up along with the timing system.

We were at a secret location somewhere out side of London and set among the trees to create a stunning back drop. As the eyes of the woodland looked on well a monk jack dear and a few rabbets the seen was set for the days filming.

The day started with the briefing from the film production company and then all eyes were on us as we told everyone what FBS was all about and how best to attack the track.

The day was not all about Keiichi we also had 2 drivers from well known magazines, Ollie Marriage from Top Gear and Steve Sutcliff from autocar. They were both here to do a write up on the car and how it drives and mostly how it could handle the FBS track.

It took a few runs from all 3 drivers to get to grips with the barrels and within no time they were laying down the challenge to see who could do the course in the quickest time. This was all filmed and should be out to see soon. Most of the day from then on was controlled by Mike Brewer better know for the program wheeler dealer. He called all the shots for the day and I must say he was a bloody nice bloke who also could not resist a few laps of the track. One thing I have to say is I have never seen so many gopro’s in all my life but it made for some great shots. Most of the day for us was spent sitting around answering questions from the crew and Becci being head time keeper for some of the shots. This was my chance to get my camera out and take as many pictures as I could for you guys to see. Filming on the track was over just after lunch and the rest of the day was all about getting action shots of DK in different locations so we were aloud to tag along and watch it all.

Everything came to a close around 5pm and it was just left to us to pack everything away. I even got to have a drive of the GT86, I found it a little low down in the seating just like the old ford Capri but with keyless start and a floppy paddle gear shift it was a nice car to drive. Did I have a drift? No as I need someone to teach me how.

Oh and for all the drivers of FBS the times set by the 3 drivers would have made the top 16. Were they in the top 5 fastest times?

Now that would be telling.
