Real Cars. Real Drivers, Real Performance

I was driving home from work today and i reminded myself about a blog i've wanted to write for a while.

See my journey to work normally consists of around an hour of motorway driving each way and the odd time i'm lucky enough to drive cars i couldn't afford to own - let alone run, yet i always look forward to driving my own car - Its not the fastest in the world nor can it be the most practical some times, yet when i drive it home from a busy day it chills me out. See i never planned to build the astra to what it is - it just kinda turned out that way, i bought the car as something to be sensible with as at the time i was looking to move away from the scene i had spent a good few years of my life in - i was starting to lose the love so to speak, Safe to say to say i found a group of people i respect enough now to acknowlege as extended family that renew that part of me i grew up with. This leads me on to why i'm writing this blog, its the age old question, why do we do what we do?

You seem to get the same old questions from people outside of this life, Why do that to a car? why spend that much money on a piece of metal? etc etc, See its easy for me to answer that - I was brought up on this lifestyle to an extent, My dad instilled the petrolhead trait in me from a young age with the many Cortinas and Sierras he had, and the stories i used to be told from both him and my next door neighbour of the cars they had had and had worked on and the adventures they had had along the way. I couldn't wait to get my licence and start making memories like the ones they talked about. That wasn't the only reason though - I wanted to be different from the crowd i wanted to have a car that wasn't like the rest, a car that i had made mine, now i had a few cars and each one has had my touch applied to them - some better than others... Though the car that i think works the best is the car that wasn't meant to be (the astra), I've realised that whatever i do cars will be a part of me however big or small until its me passing on the stories.

I asked the boys a similar question earlier and it mirrored my feelings, We do this because its a part of us, we do it to be different - to express ourselves, we do it because we can. (apart from Paps - he does because he's gangsta.)

It may be one of the most questioned hobbies you can have, but sod it - show me another hobby where you get huge groups of people with the same interests? or such cult followings?
