Im looking for ideas for a track day car im looking at small hatch backs but im open to suggestions i would like something thats easy to modify the car wont be road legal but needs to be light so i can trailer it with my road car (it needs to be under 700kg) ive been looking at ford ka saxo vtr etc but there kerb weights are 800kg up and im not sure if its possable to take out a 100kg + so if theres anybody who has already done this and knows what the finished car weighed id love to hear from you.

i use ford puma 1.7 striped out, lots of mods for them lots of spares and the cars tend to be cheap. 1.7 models have a great strong engine and box.only trouble i had was finding seats that fitted so got sparco's then made up the seat frames they fit so good. used lowering springs they were easy fit and took 20 mins each side on the rear.

I would say an mx5 your have loads of fun and also learn the art of rwd while your at it.
Permalink Reply by Rob Palmer on February 13, 2012 at 5:54pm i do like the mx5 but weight could be an issue as i wont to tow it with my road car has anyone ever weighed a stripped out one to see what they do weigh? rwd is a laugh
An MR2 is 1262kg standard - i'd imagine not far off an MX-5. Strip that down and it won't be too heavy at all
a mrk 1 is just blow 1000kg and a mrk 2 is 1100kg
there not quick but they are fun
